Nestled in the Appalachian foothills of Northern Alabama since 1981, Sound Cell has found Huntsville's seclusion to be a creative asset. It's the largest and most up-to-date recording complex in the area. Just far enough off the beaten path to work without distractions - Sound Cell has developed a unique reputation. Known nationwide for it's involvement in the development of world class talent, producers and award winning songs, Sound Cell's experienced ears and professional service compliment the relaxed atmosphere. The state-of -the-art facility was one of the first studios in the South to offer Pro-Tools - so our workstation experience is top drawer.

Successes include Claire Lynch, 1996 Grammy nominee for Best Bluegrass album, vocals recorded, engineered and co-produced by Doug Jansen Smith. Doug is a producer, songwriter, publisher, abridger, studio manager, engineer, record company president and all around lesson in how hard work pays off in the music business. The walls display numerous awards including the gold and platinum records of Alicia Keys, Kenny Rogers, Take 6, Brian McKnight and Vanessa Williams.

As an engineer at top studios in New York, Nashville, LA and Sound Cell, Doug has worked with Phil Collins, Bonnie Raitt, Lari White, Willie Nelson, Michael Hedges, BeBe Winans, and Skip Scarborough. (Skip's "Giving You The Best That I Got - Grammy's "Best Rhythm and Blues Song of the Year", was actually written in session with Doug at Sound Cell.) An experienced producer with an eye for talent, he led Grammy winners, Take 6 to Warner Brothers. The same vision signed Pierce Pettis to Windham Hill and Brian McKnight to Polygram in 1989.

The studio is only minutes from the brick sidewalks of the town square and the 13 square block preservation area of ante-bellum mansions. The downtown area surrounds a spring-fed lake at the foot of MonteSano Mountain (Mountain of Health) which is capped with a 40,000 acre state park. A few of the quiet recreations preferred by visiting clients include a cabin on the mountain overlooking the valley or a stroll around the crystal Springs.

So in such a small community, how can an independent studio end up with credits on major motion picture releases like "October Sky", and the number one infomercial of the year, "Barbara De Angelis" or work with the latest rap artist like "Killer Mike", and record the platinum comedy record of Jeff Foxworthy or the Gospel songs of TV star Clifton Davis, or lend a recording hand to a band like Blue Epic….

Operating a studio for over 20 years adds up to knowing how to work well with people in reaching their goals. Our list of past credits and our depth of experience is a well established asset we hope you'll take advantage of.
