Doug Jansen Smith established Sound Cell in 1980 in Huntsville, Alabama. Smith Music Group Inc. now provides the largest and most up-to-date recording complex in the area. Over the years, he has found success as a talent-developer, producer, songwriter, publisher, studio manager, engineer and even an audio-book abridger. Experienced in personal management, Doug has successfully guided many artists and writers. He signed Pierce Pettis to Windham Hill in 1988 and multi-Grammy nominee Brian McKnight to Polygram in 1989. 1996 brought Sound Cell Claire Lynch’s, Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass album, vocals engineered and co-produced by Mr. Smith.

Like Take 6 and Brian McKnight, David Anderson began recording at Sound Cell when he entered high school and by 1986 his first album, (co-produced and engineered by Doug), delivered Downbeat Magazine’s award for “Best Soloist”. After several east coast tours he returned to Sound Cell playing bass for Brian McKnight.

In 1990, after contributing to Brian’s debut album, David joined the world tour for BeBe & CeCe Winans, who were joined by artists like Whitney Houston, Take 6 and Mavis Staples. Between tours, his session experience with the artists and multi-instrument talents opened the door for joining Virgin Records' recording artists Brother Cane. The band scored three number one radio hits in as many records. Between records and tours with Brother Cane, David found himself recording in New Orleans with George Porter, Russel Battiste and other New Orleans local legends.

Dave’s original work with his band Dragmatic, has been licensed for several shows including, “Dawson’s Creek” and MTV’s “Tough Enough”. Both Dave & Doug independently wrote and produced original music for the USA network television series “Big Easy”. Doug has also produced music for several independent feature films, produced a series of audiobooks for Mercury Records, and has also been responsible for over 50 stand-up comedy records, including the first released work of Jeff Foxworthy.

Dave & Doug began writing together in the fall of 2002 and currently their new songs and co-productions have lead them to most recently working with Clef Records. The studio, the musicianship, the writing/production talent, the business/management experience and the years of friendship have created a team that is guaranteed continued success.
